The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) has filed an official complaint about "far-reaching sexual misconduct" that "very recently" occurred around the activities of a student association.

While the university itself reports the news in a press release, it does not provide further details "in the interest of the criminal complaint and the disciplinary procedure" that is underway.

"Sexual misconduct will not be tolerated at VUB. Not now, not in the future, never again. Our YANA (You Are Not Alone) reporting point takes every complaint, and every person making a complaint, seriously," said VUB rector Jan Danckaert.

"When sexual misconduct does occur, we undertake action and provide the necessary guidance and support for victims and those reporting throughout the entire difficult process. They are not alone," he said. The VUB has also begun a disciplinary procedure against the students involved and has taken protective measures.

The students have been banned from campus and the activities of the student association have been temporarily suspended. The victims will also be given legal and psychological assistance.

In the interests of the criminal investigation and disciplinary procedures, VUB will not provide further comment or information at this time.
