Nearly 2,500 people were evacuated from the Brussels Event Brewery hall in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean during the early hours of Sunday morning. This was due to a false bomb alert at around 2.30am, the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release. Local West-Brussels police received an anonymous call at 2.30 am on Sunday. The caller said there could be an explosion in the Brussels Event Brewery hall in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean.
The police evacuated around 2,500 people. The Red Cross also intervened to hand out blankets, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
After checks were carried out, it turned out to be a false alert, the press release said.
The Brussels Prosecutor’s Office is still looking for the caller. A false bomb alert could earn them a prison term of up to 2 years, the Prosecutor’s Office added.
