Major fire breaks out in a hotel in Brussels

A fire broke out on Saturday evening in a hotel on rue Saint-Jean Népomucène in Brussels.

No one was injured, but firefighters had difficulty reaching the source of the fire, and the third floor of the hotel was completely burnt.

The fire brigade was called at about 9:20 PM on Saturday to a fire in a hotel. Arriving to the scene, they noticed that the windows on the third floor were blackened. The firefighters had difficulty reaching the floor, but were finally able to reach it by using a large ladder and breaking some windows to get inside.

“We were also able to reach the third floor from inside the building via another entrance, located on Rue des Commerçants, which allowed us to fight the flames from another location,” Walter Derieuw, spokesperson of the fire brigade, said. "We searched the building from top to bottom for possible victims, but we did not find anyone.”

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
