Six Brussels hotels evacuated due to bomb scare on Thursday evening

On Thursday evening local police were informed that six hotels in the Brussels area had received an email warning them of a bomb alert. One of the hotels was the Royal Windsor on Brussels’ Rue Duquesnoy. All six hotels were evacuated and then searched but nothing suspicious was found. The Ommegang procession was nevertheless forced to change itinerary for security reasons, said Brussels prosecutor’s office on Friday.

The prosecutor was alerted to the bomb scare around 9:15pm and promptly ordered the evacuation of the six hotels. The hotels were searched by a team with a specialist explosives sniffer dog but the various searches showed nothing amiss and people were allowed back to the hotels around 1:30am. The route the Ommegang procession planned to take was deviated for security reasons.
