Brussels: people injured and material damage after a water fight on the pedestrian pathway degenerates

An undetermined number of people were injured on Friday evening, after a water fight on the Brussels pedestrian pathway degenerated.   There was material damage on the Boulevard Anspach, the Brussels Prosecutor’s office said on Monday. A water fight was started by people using the new pathway on Boulevard Anspach, due to the heat.

At around 8pm, a group of young people started throwing bottles of ice cold water at police officers who were patrolling the “Aves les Grecs” conference, which was taking place at the stock exchange close by. These young people turned up after receiving invitations on Facebook, witnesses said.

The incidents took place on the cross roads between the Boulevard Anspach and the rue du Marché aux Poulets. A Vivaqua fountain and nearby bus stops were damaged, along with a mobile billboard and the glass doors of a Delhaize shop.

It is not known if there were arrests.
