King Philippe visited the Home Office’s Crisis Centre on Monday in order to show his appreciation of the work done at the Centre following the Paris attacks. The King took part in a 45-minute meeting between commanding officers for the six Brussels police zones, OCAM (Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis), and Catherine DeBolle, Chief Commissioner of the federal police. The King thanked them for their 24/7 efforts and said how proud he was of their work.
King Philippe then visited the reception and communication departments. He spoke to a few collaborators and asked them questions. The Crisis Centre is open 24/7, collecting and analysing urgent information before passing it on to the relevant authorities.
The Centre opened an emergency phone line (1771) on November 21st, after the threat alert was raised to the highest level in the Brussels region. 20,000 people called, mostly in the first three days.
