Two MPs from N-VA will publish a book next week calling for a “republican monarchy” in Belgium. The two MPs, Hendrik Vuye and Veerle Wouters, said in an interview on Saturday (9 April) for La Libre Belgique that in such a regime the role of the king would not be limited to strictly ceremonial functions. Hendrik Vuye is a law professor.
They were asked by the president of N-VA Bart De Wever to prepare the ground for negotiations on “confederalism” in Belgium in 2019 and belong to a think tank which has set as objective "the emancipation of Flanders at large."
They are also against the “refederalisation” of certain competencies that today are regionalized. "It´s clear that all current problems are at the police level, justice, state security... It´s precisely the federal policy areas," the two MPs argue.
