Brussels attacks - first applications for civil proceedings actions to be submitted to Public Prosecutor's Office

During the second half of this month, three investigating judges who specialise in the field of terrorism, with responsibility for investigations into the 22nd March attacks in Zaventem and Maelbeek, will start hearing the first wave of related civil actions.
In view of the anticipated number of civil complaints, the dates currently diarised will, there is no doubt, be insufficient. Additional sessions will be organised after the summer holidays. The Federal Prosecutor's Office was abundantly clear on this point on Tuesday.

To ensure that the correct procedure has been followed, the victims reception facility has worked hard in sending some 500 letters to victims or next of kin, whose details are already on record. Its remit extends to responsibility for providing counselling and other necessary support during the meetings with investigating judges.

Additional information for victims or next of kin concerning the possibility of making a civil complaint are available on the government's specific crisis centre website (centredecrise.be), the Federal Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.
