“We must now negotiate a new relationship between the EU and UK”. Paul Magnette (PS), minister-president in Wallonia, wrote on his Twitter account on Friday morning (24 June) that "Brexit is a historic setback for the UK and a major geopolitical weakening of the European Union".
"Wallonia calls for EU to be refounded around energy efficiency and the fight against climate warming," Magnette said.
According to the news on Friday morning, the referendum in the UK resulted in a victory for the Leave camp by 52 % against 48 % for the Remain camp. The voter turnout, 72.16 %, was the highest in UK for many years.
In Northern Ireland and Scotland a majority voted for staying in the EU.
While the Leave camp is celebrating its victory, UK and EU will now enter a period of political and economic uncertainty.
