Brussels: Manneken Pis dressed in the Belgian Olympic athlete’s kit

It’s less than a week before the opening of the Olympic Games in Rio. Manneken Pis was dressed in Team Belgium’s official kit on Saturday. Team Belgium is made up of the athletes that will represent Belgium during the Games. The Games will take place from the 5th to the 21st of August. He will wear the kit again next Friday, the day of the opening ceremony.

The kits were handed out at the Brussels Town Hall. The small ceremony was attended by the President of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal committee (COIB). A few former Belgian top athletes were also present, including Gas ton Roelants. He was a long-distance runner, and won the 3,000 metre steeple chase in the 1964 Tokyo Games. There was also Roger Vanmeerbeek, an international badminton player.

Manneken Pis will wear the Team Belgium kit every time a Belgian athlete wins a medal at the Rio Games.
