Shopping on Sunday: Rue Neuve shops to stay open first Sunday of the month

In a press communiqué, Brussels city council denies the rumours spread in Belgian media that shops on Brussels main shopping street, Rue Neuve, will will be closed on Sunday. The shops will continue to be opened every first Sunday of the month. This has also been confirmed by Comeo, an association which represents and handles the communication for the shops.

Charles Petit from Comeo says “We have not received any signals from our members on Rue Nueve that they want to close on Sunday. Quite the opposite, the initiative to open every first Sunday of the month is of particular importance to strengthen Brussels image as a city for shopping. The terrorist attacks have shaken up the sector and the Sunday initiative is also an opportunity to raise the level back to normal. It is therefore of great pleasure that we welcome shoppers this Sunday.”
