Rapid response team to be deployed at Brussels Airport

“Neutralizing without killing” Belgian newspapers reported on Monday (5 September) that the minister of interior affairs Jan Jambon (N-VA) has confirmed that a rapid response team will be deployed at the airport.

This special police force will become operational early next year and will have to respond quickly and accurately in extreme circumstances.

"The team members will be selected soon. They come from a group of 200 additional police officers called to secure the airports of our country and will be given special training," confirmed Olivier Van Raemdonck, spokesperson of the minister.

The rapid response team will be equipped with bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, semi-automatic weapons and less lethal weapons using plastic bullets to neutralize perpetrators without killing them.
