On 16 February, the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone arrested a young man suspected to be connected to a dozen armed robberies across the City of Brussels and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, the police announced in a statement on Thursday.

The first robbery is reported to have taken place on 4 February. Very quickly, the man began a crime spree, committing robberies almost daily. The suspect targeted pharmacies, bookstores, supermarkets, a jewellery store, and a massage parlour.

The robber was often armed and did not hesitate to use violence or threaten his victims. With the exception of a large haul from a jewellery store, the total value of the criminal's scores was relatively low.

Police investigators, from the theft squad, reviewed hours of security camera footage in order to trace the whereabouts of the suspects, which culminated in his arrest on 16 February.

A search of his property turned up matching clothing and a bicycle police believe he used in some of the robberies.
