Experts warn against individual supplements in pension reform

Increasing the retirement age is inevitable The twelve members of the Academic Council on pensions fear that the pension reform “is taking a dangerous turn” according to a statement published on Friday (4 November) in Le Soir, De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad.

Increasing the retirement age "is probably inevitable but ultimately it should be part of a broader package of reforms," say the twelve recognized pension experts.

Among the proposed reforms planned by the government, is the idea of a supplementary individual pension for employees. The experts think that the "individualization track is dangerous”.

"Encouraging individual investments should not be part of the pension strategy. We will begin to unravel the social contract that we particularly want to strengthen and increase individual risks and social inequalities," the statement concludes.
