E40 into Brussels will revert from a 6-lane to a 3-lane carriageway at the beginning of 2017

The reduction project for the section of the E40 going into Brussels will be crystallised in 2017. This was reported on Sunday by the TV channel RTBF.

The information was confirmed to the channel by the Minister-President for the Brussels region, Rudi Vervoort. The development will initially be provisional.

In 2010, the Brussels government, adopted, a “road map” for the zone stated "RTBF-VRT", integrating the project “Parkway - E40”.

This, in particular, had the objective of integrating the E40 into the city by transforming it into an urban boulevard, thereby reducing the number of lanes.

These changes will impact the communes of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Evere and Schaerbeek.
