Schaerbeek police operations: suspect questioned
A suspect was questioned following an operation by police in Schaerbeek.

A suspect was taken in for questioning, following a police operation led in the Place Liedts district in Schaerbeek on Monday afternoon and evening. This occurred with the support of the local Brussels Nord police. The Federal Prosecutor's Office stated this in a communiqué today (Tuesday).

The man, known only as A.B., was suspected of possessing weapons and explosives, and of having made terrorist threats.

A.B. was questioned but nothing of substance was revealed, according to the Federal Prosecutor's Office. Several objects were seized, including weapons and computer equipment.

The service for the removal and destruction of explosive devices (known as SEDEE) was also on-site regarding a suspect parcel, which in the end did not contain explosives. The communiqué was clear that no such devices were found.

The suspect is to appear before the investigating judge today (Tuesday). It falls to the judge to make a decision as to the suspect’s arrest.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office added that with the judicial investigation being ongoing, no other comment can be made at the present time.
