Plane evacuated at Zaventem: a 51 year old man arrested

A 51 year old man has been arrested after shouting he had a bomb while boarding a Ryanair plane at Brussels Airport on Saturday morning. The passengers were evacuated and police searched the plane. Nothing suspicious was found, according to the Hal Vilvorde Prosecutor’s office.

“We think the man, who was part of a group, was under the influence of alcohol and just trying to be funny”, says the Prosecutor’s office spokesman Carol Vercarre. She did however say the case “was being taken seriously”.

The Prosecutor’s office will decide what will happen to him over the course of the day. “I don’t think an instruction judge will be requested, but the suspect could appear in court as part of an accelerated judicial procedure”, she concluded.

The Airport’s spokesman, Florence Muls, said the plane was heading for Madrid and was eventually able to take off at 9:30.
