Radical imam from Belgium preaches in The Hague

A former imam known for his radical preaching and who was the subject of an order to leave Belgium in October 2016, is now in The Netherlands, where he continues to preach, the Dutch daily De Telegraaf reported today. El Alami Amaouch (or Shayh Alami) was imam in Dison, a small municipality in Wallonia, and has dual Moroccan and Dutch nationality.

In November 2016, the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Theo Francken announced that the imam had voluntarily left Belgium, within the time limit, to go to Morocco. At the time, Theo Francken also stated that the Dutch authorities had been made aware of this departure and destination.

However, the imam is currently in The Hague, where he preaches, writes the newspaper, which conducted its own investigation. He is active in the Transvaal district and the Schilderswijk, without being investigated.

The municipality of The Hague and the Dutch Ministry of Justice have confirmed the presence of the imam in the city.

"He has a Dutch passport, so he can stay in The Hague", responded a spokesman for Bourgmestre Pauline Krikke. The authorities will intervene ”if he would break the law," he added.
