Sacked Catalan President Carles Puigdemont held a press conference in Brussels Press club. Speaking in Catalan, French and Spanish, he indicated that he came “to deliver a message and explain the Catalan problem to the European institutions”. He also said that he “did not want to seek asylum in Belgium”.

“I came to Brussels, the capital of Europe and not to Belgium”, explained the former Catalan President.

While saying that he didn’t want to avoid Spanish justice, he emphasised that he wanted to combat it with political arguments.

Mr Puigdemont calls for all member states in Europe to act. Although deposed, the Catalan government he chairs “will continue its work,” he said.

The press conference was followed by a large crowd of European journalists.
