The Christmas tree is due to be decorated on Sunday, with garlands exceeding 1,300 metres in total.

On Friday morning, the Brussels Grand Place welcomed the spruce which was felled the day before in the Eupen region. The Christmas tree, with a height of 22 metres is due to be decorated and then incorporated into the path of light of the Winter Joys.

The tree, coming from the public forest of Hertogenwald, arrived around 6 a.m. It has been offered by Wallonia and comes from a sustainable forest (certified under the global PEFC forest management certification system). The Christmas tree will be decorated on Sunday, with garlands exceeding 1,300 metres in total.

The Alderwoman for Tourism and Major Events for Brussels City Council, Karine Lalieux (Socialist Party) said, “The Christmas tree will, for the first time be an integral part of the Winter Joys sound and light show.” She went on, “Its illuminations will indeed be synchronised with those of the 1,600 LED strip lights, which are permanently positioned on the buildings in the Grand Place.”

The official inauguration of this light show, is anticipated for November 24th at 5.45 p.m., which will also mark the opening of the Winter Joys event.
