Brussels mayor bans right-wing demonstration against violence

The march against urban violence scheduled for Sunday has not been approved by the mayor Philippe Close, said Monday his spokesperson Wafaa Hammich. The Brussels Zone Antifascist organisation was preparing a counter-demonstration via social networks.

The mayor noted that the citizen march against the recent riots was in fact organized by the far right, notably by Frédéric Erens, current head of Vlaams Belang in Brussels.

Vlaams Belang and other Flemish nationalist organisations had announced their participation in the demonstration.

Philippe Close banned already last week a demonstration by the "Stop Repression Campaign" against the violence that occurred in the center of the capital on November 11. He declared then that he wanted to avoid new disturbances in Brussels.
