Stones were thrown at police and fire crews on Sunday evening in the Molenbeek commune. This was during New Year’s Eve. The Brussels-West police zone confirmed that the bodywork of three vehicles was slightly damaged.

The incidents took place around Boulevard Léopold II in Molenbeek and the metro station Etangs Noirs. The young individuals targeted a number of police vehicles, as well as a fire engine, which were operating within the commune.

The police said that the damage was limited to vehicle bodywork, but as a precautionary measure around 20 officers were sent to the scene. At present, the police have still not caught the culprits.

Similar incidents have happened in previous years on New Year’s Eve. The police indicated that, on this occasion, order was quickly restored.
