Former Belgian employee at Oxfam wants his version to be heard

Former Oxfam employee Roland Van Hauwermeiren, at the heart of the scandal involving prostitutes during a humanitarian mission to Haiti, reacted Thursday for the first time. He hopes that his version of the case will be heard and will shed light on the facts. Het Nieuwsblad contacted the 68-year-old man who feels very downcast. He confirmed that he does not want to react. "Everything I see everywhere is hard to bear and pains me. It's especially hard that my family doesn’t want to see me anymore."

He will shortly present an official statement via his lawyer. “I know that many people - also in the international media - will blush when they hear my version of the facts, not that I deny everything (...), but I also read a lot of lies.”
