Brussels 20km - around 200 people treated and around a dozen taken to hospital

Around 200 people were treated during the Brussels 20km, according to Red Cross Belgium. It gave a summary a little after 1pm on Sunday. Around 20 cases were due to heat stroke. A dozen people had to be taken to hospital.

There was a second summary at around 2.30pm and a final one at 4.30pm. There wasn't a lot of difference between these summaries.

On average, 400 to 700 people are treated during this event. That's one every 32 seconds.

The Red Cross brought their biggest team for the year so far. In total, 430 volunteers were dispatched under the management of the Saint-Luc University Clinics, who also brought medical teams. A large treatment post with emergency treatment was set up at the entrance. A second was set up in the changing rooms and 12 others were dotted around the route.

Medical treatment was also provided by "sweeper buses". 12 ambulances, 2 light sanitary vehicles and 3 medical vehicles were used to provide treatment at various places along the route.
