Travellers have been urged to take precautions on Wednesday and Thursday in going to the airport in Zaventem, the company managing the airport recalled, noting that many road-transport challenges are expected in connection with the NATO Summit. Moreover, trains were not a good option on Wednesday because of a strike by railway employees, it said.
“Access to the airport will be very complicated, not only because of the closure of certain roads leading to it, such as the A201, but also because the 50-odd delegations taking part in the summit are coming in and leaving through the airport,” said a spokeswoman of the Brussels Airport Company.
A 48-hour strike by the Independent Union of Railway Workers, SIC, has also reduced train traffic considerably. The national railway company, SNCB, estimated that only 1 in 3 trains were in circulation on Wednesday.
Travellers are invited to take precautions to be able to reach Zaventem, the spokeswoman said.
