The damage of the conflict at air traffic controller Skeyes is already estimated at almost 10 million euros, according to Minister for Economy Kris Peeters (CD&V) after consultation with The Belgian Air Transport Association (BATA).

The staff have been protesting the high work pressure and the hectic work organisation by collectively calling in sick. “The actions at Skeyes have a direct and indirect impact on more than 63,000 employees and the damage already comes down to almost 10 million euros,” said Peeters. “We are doing everything we can to bring the operation of air traffic control in Belgium back to the required level. Air traffic control that operates around the clock is essential for the Belgian economy.”

The management of Skeyes even had to call on German air traffic control last week to arrange the air traffic for Bierset airport (Liège). Representatives of Brussels Aiport were also at the consult.
