Brussels also bans smoking with a child in the car

Smoking in the car with a child present, is no longer allowed in the Brussels region.

The law that forbids smoking in the car when there is a child present was already in effect in Flandres and Wallonia, and now Brussels is implementing it as well.

The law was passed during the last plenary session of the Chamber before the elections. It wants to counter passive smoking and forbids smoking in the car in the presence of a child under 16. Offenders risk a fine up to 1,200 euros.

In the car, the amount of inhaled cigarette smoke is comparable to the amount a firefighter would breathe in during four hours in a forest fire, according to BX1.
