The Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone were called out to the entrance of the De Brouckère metro station in central Brussels on Thursday evening for an individual who violently hit his head against a wall in the station building, a police spokesperson said.
The scene shocked many commuters who were at the De Brouckère metro station at a busy time at the end of the day.
A visibly distressed individual hit his head violently against a wall to the point of losing a lot of blood.
Several people called the emergency services and an ambulance attended the scene. The paramedics attempted to approach the individual, who presented a danger to himself, but they were unable to control him.
The police were then called. Officers intervened, set up a security perimeter and, were able to help paramedics treat the injured man.
