The Brussels regional authorities want to open a second drug consumption space before the end of the year and are looking for a building on the Yser-Ribaucourt-North station axis.

Brussels' first user space 'Gate' opened in May 2022 in Rue de Woeringen near the Midi train station. Earlier this summer, Brussels Health Minister Alain Maron announced that he wanted to open a second space in the city.

A target date has now been announced: the space should open by the end of 2023, reports Anixton, the company commissioned by the Brussels Regional Public Service (GOB) to look for one or more buildings that will serve as a user space.

The aim is to provide a total of 1,100 m² of space in one, two or three buildings. If several buildings are used, the intention is for them to be close together.

The criteria also state that the buildings must be accessible to people with reduced mobility, and have a lift that allows stretchers to be carried from one floor to another.

The user space should open for a minimum of four years.
