One person is stuck beneath a vehicle and traffic on a tram line interrupted after an incident took place in unclear circumstances in Brussels.

Public transport company STIB/MIVB reported on Twitter that a collision had taken place at around 2:50 PM on Thursday.

"A person is stuck underneath a tram but is conscious," STIB spokesperson Françoise Ledune told BX1, adding that the circumstances leading to the incident remained unclear.

The incident took place in the municipality of Etterbeek, near the tram stop Pétillon, located near the VUB university campus.

Police and the fire department are on the scene. Traffic on tram line 25 has been suspended and relay buses serving the segment between stops Meiser in Schaerbeek and Roffiaen in Ixelles.
