Brussels Airlines added a brand-new Airbus A320neo to its fleet for the first time on Wednesday.

The aircraft, which landed at Brussels Airport in Zaventem at around 13:00 on Wednesday, is the first of five which are set to be delivered in the coming months.

Flying from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, southern France, this signifies the first occasion in the company's history that a new aircraft has been directly received from the manufacturer. The plane, boasting 180 seats for short and medium-haul flights, was greeted with a water salute at Zaventem.

These five A320neos, replacing older A319 aircrafts, form part of the airline's fleet-renewal strategy (the term 'neo' denotes 'new engine option').

"The A320neo constitutes part of the airline's strategy of rivalling with the most modern, efficient aircraft, thus achieving its ambitious sustainability objectives," stated Airbus in a press release.
