Just two weeks after a shooting in the area, a pop-up police store opened in the Toison d'Or gallery last weekend. The Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone wants to increase visibility in the neighbourhood during the busier end-of-year period.

The space, where the police zone's 'Christmas Cop' also took place two years ago, has now been redesigned as a meeting place for traders, local residents and other visitors.

"People can ask all their questions there, but it is not possible to file a complaint or an official report in the room itself," a police spokesperson said in a press release.

The local Ixelles police will be in the gallery from 12:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and from 1o:00 to 20:00 at the weekend. If the inspectors are on patrol, this will also be posted at the premises, as will their contact details. In case of emergency, the emergency number 101 should still be dialled.

On the evening of Wednesday 6 December, a shooting that was likely related to the drug environment took place on Avenue Toison d'Or, not too far from the gallery. Four people were injured. Local traders were quick to denounce the growing insecurity in the area in recent months.

The police pop-up will remain open until Saturday 14 January.
