For the second consecutive night, several gunshots were fired at a residence on the Rue Wéry in the Brussels municipality of Ixelles, the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone announced on Thursday.

At around 01:00, locals were woken by several gunshots at a residence on the Rue Wéry. They called the police.

"The police immediately arrived at the scene. There were no injuries. At the address where the shooting took place, bullets were recovered and impacted against the facade of the house that was shot at," the police said in a press release.

The Brussels public prosecutor's office was notified and ordered an investigation. A perimeter was set up and the forensic lab also attended the scene.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a similar incident occurred at exactly the same address at 02:56. Again, no one was injured.

"And two days earlier, on 18 December around 01:40, an explosion also took place at the same address," the police statement read. "After police arrived at the scene, the victims had already been evacuated. They were transferred to the commissariat pending the lifting of the perimeter."

Those living at the address were allowed to return home after the site had been investigated and the danger thought to be passed. One person had injuries to the foot after trying to flee.

An investigation into the exact circumstances and to identify the perpetrators is ongoing.
