A shooting near Porte de Hal on Sunday evening left two people injured but not in mortal danger. Police are still searching for the perpetrators.

Gunshots were heard at around 18:00 on Sunday on Rue Lacaille, in the City of Brussels, located near the Porte de Hal and Brussels-Midi station. The police forces of the Brussels-Capital Ixelles zone were called to the scene.

"Upon arrival of the police forces, it was found that two victims of the shooting were taken to hospital," the Public Prosecutor's Office's spokesperson Willemien Baert, said. "They are not in mortal danger."

Camera images were analysed and several witnesses near the scene of the incident told the Public Prosecutor's Office that they heard several shots. A judicial perimeter was then set up to preserve all traces useful for the investigation but in the meantime, security measures around Rue Lacaille have been lifted.

The perpetrators reportedly fled on a scooter and are still on the run. Police are actively looking for them.

Four people were interrogated by the police during the evening and were then made available to the public prosecutor's office, but the magistrate on duty released them. "These four people were from the entourage of the victims," Baert stated.

"The investigation is still being actively pursued to clarify the proper context of the facts," she added. No further information was released in the interest of the investigation.
