A shooting took place in the Brussels municipality of Forest on Tuesday night. One person was in critical condition, but this is no longer the case.

The Midi police zone was called to Rue de Fierlant near Place Saint-Antoine in Forest, just by the Parc de Forest, at around 01:20 on Tuesday night as shots had been fired. The Brussels Public Prosecutor confirmed the news on Wednesday morning.

"The emergency services were immediately called to the scene," spokesperson Stevan Vandevelde said. "Several victims were taken to hospital for further treatment." One person, who was reportedly hit in the thigh, was in mortal danger, but this is no longer the case. Two people were collateral victims, while a house and car were damaged by the gunfire.

Witnesses on the scene were questioned, while camera footage was analysed. "An investigating judge was then advanced for the charge of murder and resigned at the scene in the presence of the prosecutor and the law doctor," the Brussels Public Prosecutor said.

As the investigation is ongoing, the prosecution will provide an update in the late afternoon on Wednesday or Thursday.

It remains unclear whether this incident can be linked to other recent shootings in the region. Last month, several shootings took place in the Porte de Hal area over a few days, resulting in several people being injured and one death. Since then, several other shootings have been reported, many of which are believed to be linked to drug trafficking and turf wars.
