Telenet lost thousands of subscribers in its high-speed broadband and mobile networks during the first quarter of the year, according to quarterly figures released on Friday by Liberty Global, the American parent company of the Belgian telecommunications operator.
Telenet's fixed internet network lost 2,100 customers. Growth in its subsidiary, BASE, only partially offset this decline in the main Telenet brand.
In the final quarter of 2024, Telenet saw an increase in its high-speed network customers for the first time in two years, a trend CEO John Porter then described as a "return to growth."
On the mobile network, Telenet lost 3,700 subscribers due to intense competition following the launch of new competitor DIGI, according to Liberty. BASE fared better after adjusting its offerings, the group noted.
Financially, Telenet remains on track to meet its full-year targets. Revenue increased by 2.7% to €721.2 million, and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) rose by 2.6% to €304 million.
