After thousands of flights were scrapped over the Christmas weekend worlwide, more than 2,400 flights were cancelled again on Monday, according to figures from the website FlightAware.

The problems in international travel continue after thousands of flights were cancelled on Christmas already, mainly due to Covid-related issues.

The problems are partly caused by the increasing number of infections with the Omicron variant across the world: airline employees are also becoming infected or are in quarantine.

In total, more than 8,000 aircraft were grounded over the Christmas weekend. American and Chinese destinations were particularly affected.

However, Covid is not the only thing hindering air traffic: winter weather conditions, for example in Washington (USA), also cause delays.
