Ryanair announced on Thursday that it will return to Northern Ireland in the summer of 2023.

The low-cost Irish carrier will serve 12 destinations, with 115 flights per week, from Belfast International Airport, Belga News Agency reports.

Ryanair announced last year that it would stop flying from Belfast International Airport and Belfast City Airport from Autumn 2021, following “the British government’s refusal to suspend or reduce the passenger tax as well as the lack of incentives in the context of post-pandemic recovery.”

Cost concerns remain, according to Ryanair, which says “the UK government must immediately eliminate air taxes on all flights or the UK risks losing flights to mainland Europe.”

However, where Northern Ireland’s capital is concerned, “a long-term agreement has been reached with the management of Belfast International Airport which will support Ryanair’s future growth at the airport.”
