Inflation continues to rise in Britain, with the prices of consumer goods going up by 9.4% in June compared to the same month of last year, the Office of National Statistics (ONS) announced on Wednesday.

This was the highest figure recorded since the office began registering inflation in 1997.

According to the ONS, the last time such a high figure was recorded in Britain was in 1982.

The ONS had sent out a similar message last month, when inflation was 9.1 percent.

The statistical service said the increase was mainly due to higher prices for energy and food. Used cars, on the other hand, were slightly cheaper than before.

The British central bank has been increasing interest rates for some time now to fight inflation. Since November, it has raised the leading interest rate several times, to the current 1.25%.
