Volvo Trucks in Ghent, the only truck assembly plant in Belgium, announced on Friday its plan to terminate 200 temporary contracts from February.

Company spokesperson Ronald Van Schepdael confirmed this decision in a statement, attributing the workforce reduction to a "normalisation of the European market" following the record-breaking year of 2023, when 46,700 trucks were manufactured in Ghent.

Currently, Ghent's factory employs 3,200 individuals, primarily permanent workers.

Temporary contracts were additionally used to adapt to market fluctuations. Of these temporary workers, 200 will conclude their employment with the Ghent-based truck manufacturer.

In addition to the production line, Volvo Trucks also operates a warehouse in Belgium, bringing the total workforce to approximately 4,000 employees.
