Brexit-backing TV presenter Nigel Farage was arrested yesterday at a Brussels pub after ordering a pint of weak lager instead of a proper beer, the Belgian capital’s police force has revealed.

Initial media speculation had suggested that a rightwing conference was shut down by the Brussels boys in blue in an Orwellian-style curtailment of free speech.

However, a police spokesman has now exclusively told Le Chou that this was not the case and that the raid was triggered by Nigel Farage’s request for a pint of Heineken at an adjoining bar.

“We cannot tolerate this kind of provocation in our city. You do not come to Brussels and order a glass of.. of.. I cannot even speak its name,” the police official said through gritted teeth.

“If Mr Farage had ordered a glass of one of our delicious trappist beers or even something a little weaker, then there would have been no problem. But our internal rules are very clear,” he added.

Farage, an unelectable politician who now makes a living as a low-rated TV pundit, was for once unavailable for comment as he is currently undertaking a 'Beer reeducation programme', courtesy of the Belgian state.

The conference was also reportedly shut down after a group of Italian politicians asked for a portion of “French fries” at a nearby restaurant. After the Belgian owners threatened violence against the diners, the police felt the need to act to protect public safety.
