The Council of Ministers on Friday approved a bill that abolishes a series of minor taxes worth €6 million, according to Finance Minister Jan Jambon.

The taxes being scrapped include the advertising tax, which is no longer enforced in practice.

Others include the 4.4% tax that self-employed workers must pay under their pension agreement, and the bank transfer fee, which is no longer relevant in a digitalised world.

Excise duties on plant-based milk with no added sugar will be reduced.

This is seen as a nod to the increasing number of consumers choosing plant-based alternatives to milk.
