US President Donald Trump extended his trade truce with China by 90 days on Monday, just hours ahead of the theoretical expiration of the truce, US media reported.

The two largest economies in the world had become embroiled in a tariff war in April, imposing import duties of more than 100% on each other.

In May, they agreed to de-escalate the situation and reduce reciprocal tariffs for a period of 90 days, which was supposed to lead to an agreement by 12 August at the latest.

Trump had already expressed his intention to extend the truce late last month. For now, no new import duties will be imposed between the two countries.
