Ukraine critically needs additional air defences, said NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg during the G7 summit in Capri, Italy.

"We are now actively working on this within NATO," Stoltenberg said. He reported having recently received "encouraging" signals of military aid commitments from members of the North Atlantic alliance.

Notably, he referenced Saturday’s vote in the US House of Representatives on a €61 billion aid package for Kyiv.

Stoltenberg also mentioned new pledges of support coming from Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands among others. However, he emphasised: "We should have given them more, earlier".

This statement was made ahead of a meeting he is attending with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba – the first of such appearances for Stoltenberg at a G7 meeting.

The NATO-Ukraine Council will meet in Brussels today. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski is set to participate via video link from Ukraine.
