On Thursday evening, Slovakia’s parliament approved the dissolution of the public broadcaster RTVS.
The controversial draft law was passed by MPs from the three-party ruling majority.
Prime Minister Robert Fico’s populist Slovak government has repeatedly accused RTVS of lacking objectivity.
In April, Andrej Danko, the pro-Russian chairman of the Slovak National Party (SNS) and a coalition government member, declared there was a need to counteract the "deeply ingrained socialism at RTVS."
The opposition, opposing the law for months, accuses the Slovak government of changing RTVS into a "disinformation medium that will broadcast pro-government propaganda."
