The number of overnight stays in tourist accommodations such as hotels, holiday homes, and campsites in the European Union reached a new record in 2024, according to Eurostat.
Tourists in 2024 accounted for an estimated 2.99 billion overnight stays in the EU, an increase of 53.4 million or 2 percent compared to 2023.
Most of the growth came from tourists outside the EU, while domestic tourism within the EU saw a slight decline. International tourists made up 48 percent of all overnight stays.
Nearly all EU member states saw an increase in tourist overnight stays, with significant rises in Luxembourg, Malta, and Latvia. However, France and Belgium experienced a decrease of 1 percent each.
