The EU summoned the Russian envoy in Brussels following a Russian attack on Kyiv, which also hit the EU delegation's buildings in the city.
At least fourteen people were killed in Russia's night-time attack. In addition to the EU delegation's buildings, those of the British Council were also severely damaged. None of the staff were injured, confirmed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
On Thursday, Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, announced the Russian envoy was summoned in Brussels in a post on X.
"No diplomatic mission should ever be a target. In response, we are summoning the Russian envoy in Brussels," she wrote.
I just spoke with my colleagues in @EUDelegationUA in Kyiv, after our building was damaged by a Russian strike.

When asked whether this was a deliberate attack against the EU delegation, the European Commission said it could not answer. "It is up to Russia to answer that question and take responsibility for its targets," said a spokesperson. "But it is clear that they are constantly attacking civilian targets and that people have died."
Belgium's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prevót (Les Engagés), condemned the attack on Thursday morning. "Russia shows, once more, that it has no genuine will for peace. It chooses terror, destruction, and lies over dialogue," he wrote in a post on X. "Belgium stands in full solidarity. We will not be silent. Ukraine will not stand alone."
