The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control's (ECDC) map of the Covid-19 pandemic situation, updated on Thursday, shows most of the region as dark red.
Only Romania, three regions in Italy and some overseas territories escape the red or dark red colour coding, the latter being used for areas in which more than 500 infections per 100,000 inhabitants have been detected over the past two weeks.
The ECDC publishes its European map every Thursday based on the number of infections and the percentage of positive tests over the past 14 days. The map has four colours: green, orange, red and dark red.

Green refers to regions where the incidence (the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 14 days) is less than 50 and the positivity rate is less than 4%, or where the incidence is less than 75 but the positivity rate is less than 1%.
Red is used in two cases: when the incidence is between 75 and 200 with a positivity rate above 4%, or when the incidence is between 200 and 500, regardless of the positivity rate.
Belgium remains dark red, as do most other countries and regions in Europe. Only one region, Romania, is coloured in green.
