Nights spent at camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks in the EU totalled 413 million in 2025.

Camping and caravanning made up 13.4% of all tourist accommodation nights that year, Eurostat reported on Thursday.

The number of nights spent at these outdoor sites rose by 28.5% compared with 2015, while nights in hotels, holiday rentals and other short-stay accommodation increased by 23.4% over the same period.

Around two-thirds of camping and caravanning nights in 2025 — 67.0%, or 277 million — were recorded in the summer months of June to August.

Numbers started rising in March and peaked in August at 118 million nights, before falling to 40 million in September and 15 million in October, ending the year with almost 5 million nights in December.

France recorded 154 million nights at campsites and caravan parks in 2025, accounting for 37.2% of all nights spent at these types of accommodation across the EU, Eurostat said.

Spain had 49.8 million nights, Italy 49.1 million and Germany 45.0 million, according to the data. In the rest of the top 10 EU countries, nights ranged from 26.8 million in the Netherlands to 7.1 million in Portugal.
