The EU has inaugurated Jordan’s Central Medical Warehouse, the last of 14 facilities delivered under a €50 million health programme carried out with the World Health Organization.
The warehouse is part of an EU-funded package designed to support Jordan’s healthcare system, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement on Thursday.
The programme has strengthened primary health care, expanded equitable immunisation and improved disease surveillance in Jordan, the EEAS stated.
Disease surveillance refers to systems that monitor and track illnesses to help detect and respond to outbreaks.
It also supported “more resilient” health system governance across the country.
New funding for primary care
A new €15 million EU-funded initiative is already underway to improve the efficiency, equity and responsiveness of primary health care services, the EEAS said.
The initiative includes policy support, piloting comprehensive care models and rehabilitating around 35 health centres in partnership with the World Health Organization and Jordan’s Ministry of Health.
